15 on the 15th: August

I've been taking pictures on the 15th of each month, but I'm not very good at doing this part: blogging. Here is this month's.

Brian and Elijah were in a hockey camp all week and had a scrimmage game that morning (at 8am!) We had an early morning.

8:42am

8:44am

9:43am
After the game the boys got autographs from Kris Versteeg, Devin Setoguchi, and Brandon Davidson (all NHL hockey players who coached at the hockey camp).

11:15am
Hadley has been really into drawing lately, and was helping Elijah draw with an angry bird book they got at the library.

12:17pm
I went outside to take pictures of the kids and discovered they had brought a whole bunch of toys into the play house and Hadley and Brian were playing Battleship.

They vowed they would clean it all up when they were done.....apparently they weren't done for a week when I discovered the mess was still there.

12:19pm
Sam had to show me his climbing skills

1:18pm
I feel silly using the self-timer, but I also would like me to actually exist in our "day in the life" posts....so here I am, finally organizing the junk drawer that was getting hard to close.

1:39pm

1:45pm
I am surprised at what this girl is capable of on the ipad (or "showpad" as she calls it)

3:25pm

5:48pm
The kids were SO excited we were having crepes for supper. Not the most nutritious thing, but we love them with whipped cream and berries. Elijah asks for them almost every day.

6:00pm

6:33pm
7:44pm
This is not the best picture, but I just wanted to capture what family prayer and scriptures often looks like. Only half the kids were crying.

7:44pm
At least it didn't stop Elijah from reading.

So, that was our day about a week ago.

10 on Tuesday...yes it is still Tuesday

1. Last night was super crappy. Pun intended. 5 kids sick, taking shifts waking up to puke, etc. It sure made for a long night and the boys missed the second day of their hockey camp. Sad.

2. Summer is coming to a close, and we are prepping for another year of homeschooling! I am excited about trying some new things, but keep reminding myself that plans need to be very flexible. Sometimes I can get a little too focused on going with the predetermined list of events instead of focusing on the important part of letting our children learn and discover from their own ambitions, which often happens outside of lists and schedules.

3. Johnny is growing up quickly. He's started scooching around and is so close to crawling. And, he loves food!

4. I've started reading this book after seeing a couple people recommend it and finding it on my mother-in-law's book shelf, and I am so anxious to find out what happens.

 5. The boys are in a hockey camp this week that has a few NHL players as coaches and my cousins wife teaches the power skating. They have been so excited for this since we signed them up in April. I hope they feel good enough in the morning to go!

6. John and I decided to finally use some gift cards that he had won to go out to eat. John's brother and girlfriend babysat all 6 kids for us! It was awesome. I ordered a duck club sandwich with BBQ duck, chicken, prosciutto, lettuce, tomato, brie cheese, black current aioli, on grilled cinnamon raisin bread ( I just stole the description from the online menu). It was delicious. I like to order things that I know I would never take the time to make. I was almost too chicken to order it, but after asking the waitress about it, John talked me into it. John got the prime rib.

7. The kids have been in swim club this summer. Hadley and Brian love it, but Elijah has only been going because I said he would get a reward for going.....haven't decided what that reward is.

8. Our cat is about to have kittens....again. We really were intending on being responsible pet owners, but apparently we waited too long.

9. This summer we implemented more daily chores for the kids. I love it and hopefully there will come a day when I don't have to remind them to do it...haha.

10. Have you ever heard of "Dressing Your Truth?" I've read some of the book and watched the videos they send you to try to talk you into buying the course. I'm most definitely a dominant type 2 with secondary type 4. It was validating and actually a little humorous reading how spot on some of it was. It's a fun theory, but I'm not totally convinced.....there's some of my type 4 coming through.

15 on the 15th: February

Here are our 15 pics on the 15th of this month. Johnny was blessed at church on this day, so we have a lot of pictures of him. John gave him a beautiful blessing and we went to Stirling after church to visit and have supper. It was a great day.

15 on the 15th: January

It's taken me a while to get back to blogging, and I guess rightfully so. Little John was born on January 16th. Just shy of having a very exciting 15 on the 15th......oh well.

Our January 15th was a pretty lazy day...just preparing for our little bundle to arrive. Again, I feel kind of silly posting these pictures because I'm not a photographer at all...I'm doing it more for myself than anyone. I'm hoping that it will force me to learn at least something about taking pictures. We'll see.

Anyway, here was our day (as much as I photographed at least - I wasn't quite feeling it being 41+ weeks pregnant.)

This girl doesn't exactly like getting her picture taken...

Good morning Nellie!

Always wants "ceweal" for breakfast

I taught the kids how to play crokinole. It's my Dad's board from when he was a kid.

Hadley took this pic of me. I figured this baby deserves at least 1 belly shot, even if it's a little blurry.

Nellie loves watching "shows" on the ipad.

Mopping the floor creates all kinds of fun.

Ready for getting induced in the morning.....

Nellie's 2nd Birthday

Nellie turned 2 about a month ago. Two-year-olds sure are easy to please.....as far as birthday celebrations go.

I made a doll for Nellie using this tutorial from Make It & Love It using fabric and supplies that I had on hand. I think it turned out pretty cute, but the yarn hair hasn't held up very well.

Nellie loves it.

Sam wrapped up a truck for Nellie too.

At supper time, I felt bad for not making Nellie a cake, so John made an ice cream "cake" for her. He just put ice cream into a tupperware container to make it a square. Best idea ever!

We sure love you Nellie!
